Many people spend their lifetime chasing power, money, fame and relationships only to find out that when they got what they thought they wanted- there was still something missing...
I certainly was no exception.
I didn't know any better for a long time and wasn't even aware of the power I had. That is, the power of my free will. The power to know myself, and instead of try to change who I am, to nurture my desires and interests and be all I came here to be. I share with you this quest for Self Mastery.
Placing my attention concienciously, I have learned quite a bit over the years - perhaps taking a few classes from the "The School of Hard Knocks" ...you know the one don't you? I'm sure you've taken a few classes there yourself... Slowly, I became a bit more self-"aware'. Aware of my desire to lead a more fulfilling life and aware of the the choices I had to make to accomplish it.
I suspect I'm not alone.
At what cost (in our health, vitality, self-respect, esteem, integrity, etc.) does it take to achieve our results? Are we leading a natural and balanced life, moving in line with our unique strengths and purpose? Do we feel alive? It's very important that we do.
Looking externally for your truth is like placing a sundial in the shade. You are a light waiting to shine! You just haven’t remembered who you are or invested enough energy to pursue what you like to do in order to discover it and achieve it.
If you want to make a positive change in your life and your not sure how, this site can help. I see a lot of people making the same mistakes over and over. The same mistakes I made before I understood the way things work…the way I do now. What I understand now is calling me to put it down in words for my own benefit and for the benefit of people like you who may find these words helpful.
The mission of Self-Mastery.org is simple: 1. To support your growth. 2. Offer articles, resources and information to improve the quality of your life. 3. Add positive energy to the world.
The tenants of this site are:
- Gratitude, respect for self.
- Gratitude and respect for all life.
- Gratitude and respect for all beings, wherever they may be on their journey, life-process, personal growth and spiritual development.
(you may come to know these three tenants as one and the same.)
What we are capable of, far exceeds what most of us produce. This is true primarily if we are living off-purpose. To serve humanity in the way which we were intended to, serves us all!
In this site I will provide straight-forward, tried and true, techniques, tips and tools, including ways of thinking and behaving which are relevant to achieving Self-Mastery.
In short, this site is dedicated to you, and our collective human potential. It holds treasures of knowledge, writings, information, and resources- some of the best I’ve come across in my lifetime, which will assist you on your path.
Coming from a place within, which I have uniquely identified with, during times of hardship, confusion, feeling lost, inner searching, prayer, opening-up and enlightenment - in its own timing and form - answers would come.
Like little jewels that I have picked up along the way, this web site contains many words of wisdom, tools and resources which freely gather inspiration from all walks of life without prejudice.
Self-Mastery.org contains information in the areas of science, philosophy, metaphysics, new-age thinking, nature, religion, art, culture, inspirations and visions...with the common goal of self-development and Self-Mastery.
I try not to be too theoretical. What’s most important to me in this site is that it’s something you can use to benefit your life.
“The greatest endeavor a human being can ever undertake is to know themselves.”
To be complete we must live in the flow. We must have balance and diversity. We must be light, and gain wisdom from our life experiences.
The people I most admire are people who do what they love, and love what they do. They combine elements of creativity, hard work and numerous ‘mistakes’ and ‘failures’ to bring something new into fruition.
They have been internally guided to produce something unique that never existed before in quite the same way. They stand out from the crowd of followers. And in so doing, they have re-invented themselves, won-over the nay-sayers, and attracted the attention and admiration (and wealth) from those around them.
When you think about it, whether it's a rock-star musician, an actor, a novelist, an inventor, a software designer or a real-estate developer, some of the happiest, wealthiest and what I would call successful people in the world all got that way the same way. They all used their own creativity!
You can always tell when someone loves what they do. They do it seemingly effortlessly as a natural extension of who they are.
The Self-Mastery.org site is intended to be nothing but positive, useful and encouraging to all those who want to rise above agony, bitterness and poverty. It is a personal promotional tool you can use to promote you!
Self-Mastery requires many things. It requires self-awareness, correct attention, clear intent, stead-fastness - even in the face of fear and adversity, believing in yourself, balance, self-reliance, definitely discipline - but not blind discipline, opening up to your own truth, opening up of the heart, self- cultivation, positive conditioning, positive reinforcement, mentoring and perhaps some other things which I don't yet know.
One thing I do know is that it starts with you, and taking responsibility for your life.
"Change begins with a conscious choice."
Change begins with a conscious choice. (Did I just repeat that? Maybe I'll just leave it in there incase someone didn't hear me the first time...) People who are willing to look closely at themselves and their lives, in order to openly evaluate their strengths and weaknesses - as well as what is working for them and what is not - and pay homage to it (I hope that's you...) will be the ones most able to grow and benefit from the wealth of information and resources in this web site.
Conscious decisions we make in our lives carry great energy/ moving power for change. Don't underestimate your personal power. Your personal power is only thwarted when you are moving in the wrong direction in life. It really is like a flow.
"Be bold—and mighty forces will come to your aid." - Basil King
Here's a short story:
I was going against the flow for a long time. Things were not going my way and the things that I did receive were not coming easy. I felt like my batteries were being drained day by day, week by week, month by month, year by year - feeling tired, getting sick, dispassionate about life, just marking time until... Once I took a decision (you know- a hard scary one) and I turned around, WOOOOOOOOOOSH! a rush of energy came to shed me of my old energy, and get me started on my new path...like turning a sailboat around in the wind. And now I check every chance I get to make sure that I'm still on it. I acknowledge a force, intelligence and influence in my life far greater than what I am able to orchestrate myself. The moral: Going it alone- and going against the flow - we don't stand much of a chance. But letting go - and going with the flow - there's nothing you can't do. More on this...
The time may come when you too will have to face your truth and make that choice. Change is inevitable -sooner or later- it's one of the few certainties in life. (An energetic principle, if you will...) And if there is to be change, it is better to have a hand in that change - rather than to have it imposed upon you (I always say.) Instead of waiting until change is forced, upon you, take the opportunity to make choices early on. Use this site, my experiences and those of others as your guide and be willing to make mistakes and live by your own convictions. Believe me - as I mentioned earlier, you'll be so glad you did!
Taking an interest in expanding your understanding of yourself, you will gain insights into your inner- workings, gain an element of control (mastery) over them, and begin to create life-long patterns of balance and success.
This 'self-work' reinforces a positive lifestyle. Working in harmony with your own true-nature, you will learn to let go of the reigns a little (reduce your "attachment" to and control of any particular outcome). You will learn to identify what's working and what's not working in your life. And each time you improve this awareness, you will increase your ability to achieve the happiness, positive emotions and personal satisfaction and success you may have only dreamed of but haven't quite been able to achieve - yet.
Well...it all starts right here and now at this web site, Self-Mastery.org. Aren't you glad you found us..?!
"If one advances in the direction of his dreams, one will meet with success unexpected in common hours." - Henry David Thoreau
The good news is, the best of all outcomes imaginable is assured, and we are all on that path that leads straight there. And the even better news is: Where and how long we are on that path is an affect of how we live our life. It depends solely on us - it's in our hands!- and not some outside source.
My role in putting forth this site is to follow my instincts, remain true to my principles and present things as simply as possible- Oh yea, and to keep it a bit lively- as well.
Also, to develop this site, in order that it continues to grow and 'become' a vessel of interest and resource for others, and...just to learn. "We teach what we most need to learn." This statement couldn't ring truer for me. To be self-mastered is to continually seek to be more self-aware…
In presenting what's contained in this site, I certainly don't claim to know it all, but rather through this medium, hope to gain more insights and make more realizations which will assist me on my path and allow me to make contributions to assist others as well. A sincere desire to remain true, an earnest intention to 'become' and some basic HTML know-how is all I will provide.
At one point in my life - just around the millennium - I took an extended leave of absence with my wife to travel to the far east. I suppose it was part of my "self-mastery" crusade... Prior to this trip, a little joke started up between my wife and myself about Mr "Woo Doo" -I think my wife made him up actually... Mr. Woo Doo - so affectionately called - is a figment of the imagination.
He is the proverbial, "Oriental wise man that lives in the mountain." He sits there all -knowing, in meditation. Heck he doesn't even need his physical body anymore- he's never in it....He is shrouded in mystery and legend- And if you are one of the rare few that get to see him, he can grant you passage to the next stage of your life- whatever that may be for you...
I suppose at that point in my life, part of my ego wanted to meet Mr. Woo Doo... even, wanted to be Mr. WooDoo. It's the part of my ego that wants desperately to be enlightened; wants to have wisdom beyond his years; wants to always be joyful and have kind words to others; and of course, wants to have the abundance of my wildest dreams, and throwing in a little inner peace wouldn't hurt either.....
I'm sure we all wish to be those things and have those things - and we all very well may be those things at times... But like any ego- we mustn't take it too seriously - and you can see I don't. I've seen too many people take themselves too seriously - and I was one of them wouldn't you know... I think Mr. Woo Doo lives in all of us. We all have some of him in us at different times in our lives and collectively, with each other's help, we can experience and benefit from his wisdom more and more, until that is all that there is.
By the way, the trip went fine- but that's a whole other story. I can tell you this though; in India, there's a guy who claims to be Mr. "Woo Doo" every block and a half.... and for a few rupees, you can even get your picture taken with him.
Please enjoy what is being presented and be part of it by taking action! We all need positive reinforcement and encouragement to move forward.
